On June 1, 2023, we implemented a new electronic medical record (EMR) system, Epic, across both Kona Community Hospital and Kohala Hospital. Epic is a national gold standard for EMRs, which enables us to provide improved and streamlined patient care communication across different providers. Since the transition, we have witnessed a positive direct impact on our patient’s lives.
As we continue to learn and grow with our new system, we are also actively addressing challenges, including releasing patient statements. These statements include balances owed on a bill after your insurance company has processed its portion of the payment for services rendered as far back as June 1, 2023. Please know that we are working diligently with our partners to ensure that everything functions as it should.
We anticipate that statements will start reaching customers in September 2024. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the delay in receiving your statements. Rest assured, there will be no late charges or interest fees incurred to your patient account due to this delay.
If you have any questions or concerns or would like to make a payment on your account, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our patient accounting department/Business office:

How To Read Your Statements
We are now preparing to generate patient statements using the Epic system. These statements will outline any remaining balances after the insurance payments are processed. Patients might have already received an Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from their insurance provider, detailing what they have covered and any outstanding amount owed to Kohala Hospital. Please be aware that these statements will only reflect balances for services provided by our facilities and will not include charges from third-party providers, who will issue separate bills for their services.
If you have any questions or need financial assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact our business office:
