The North Kohala peninsula is the oldest section of Hawaii Island and is rich in cultural history. Mo’okini Heiau, Lapakahi State Historical Park, and the birthplace and original statue of King Kamehameha I stand as graphic reminders of a time when North Kohala was virtually unknown to the Western world.
North Kohala today is a blending of residents who have lived here for generations and newcomers who have adopted this district as home.
